On July 13th, the Cambridge Rocket Club completed it’s 4th launch of the season. After a morning rain delay, the skies cleared and we were treated to lite to moderate winds and hot temperatures. The primary theme of the launch was Big Rockets. We ended up flyinhg11 big rockets on “G” engines and 9 big rockets on “F” engines, all of them successfully. The launches featured dual deployment, altimeters and on-board data recorder. We also flew some scale models, two stage models and clustered engine models.
We also featured our annual model rocket give-away. We managed to give away 19 flight ready models complete with model rocket engines to the youngsters in attendance. Many of those models were flown, all of them successfully.
In the afternoon we featured our annual Open Parachute Spot Landing contest sponsored by the Canadian Rocket Store. We had a disappointing 6 members compete with only two of the rockets launched by the same person landing within 100 feet of the target. We need to do a better job flying low altitude, small engine, big parachute models. here are the three winners;
1st place – Alex Specogna, 41 feet ($75. Gift Certificate)
2nd Place – Siddhant, 160 feet ($50. Gift Certificate)
3rd Place – Michael Robbins – 166 feet ($25. Gift Certificate)
Our next launch will be on Saturday August 9th and will feature our annual 1/2A.3-4T Streamer Duration Contest sponsored by the Canadian Rocket Store. For those interested, I will be hosting a streamer duration workshop at the field on Saturday July 19th at 11:00 a.m. to demonstrate how to build, fly and optimize your streamer duration models. All are welcome.
