July 7 2019 Mid-Summer Launch Report

July 7, 2019March 18, 2021 admin

On July 7, 2019 the Cambridge Rocket Club hosted it’s largest club launch of the year. The temperatures were warm in the mid 20’s and the wind gradually reduced from 20 kph in the morning to approximately 10 kph in the afternoon. The clear skies provided for a great view of the rockets in flight for all those that attended. We had a total of 17 cars and 33 people at the Mohawk Road launch site including guests from Kitchener and as far away as Bowmanville. One young lady living in the house on the property also joined us for the fun.

Fifteen different club members launched a total of 77 rockets including scale, cluster, multistage, egg lofter, glider and a drag race models. The scale models included replicas of the Mercury Redstone, V-2, Honest John, Saturn 1B, Saturn V and Skylab models. We burned 87 model rocket engines ranging from 1/4 A to G motors for a total impulse of 2,545 Newtons.

Our next launch is scheduled for July 20, 2019, the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Club members are encouraged to bring out their Saturn V’s for this celebration. We also encourage members to bring out any and all scale replica models for what should prove to be our biggest launch of the year (so far).
