Aug 21, 2021 – Oldies But Goodies Launch

September 2, 2021 admin

On Saturday August 21, 2021, the Cambridge Rocket Club hosted it’s 8th launch of the year. The weather finally co-operated and we were greeted with 30 degree temperatures, partially cloudy skies and meandering 5 – 8 KPH winds. The wind direction from the South East forced us to utilize the extreme east end of the 510 Mohawk Road launch site. The roadway and isolated flat area allowed us to park our cars beneath the shade of some nearby trees and relatively close to the launch pads.

We enjoyed our largest turnout of the year with 15 members and a large number of family members and guests in attendance. We took advantage of the low winds and flew a number of big rockets to impressive altitudes and having them land very near the launch pads. We had a total of 8 cluster rockets successfully launched including one 9 cluster rocket (one of the mini-A motors did not fire). We also had 5 two stage rockets and a number of Oldies but Goodies (discontinued rockets) launched, a couple of egg lofting test flights and some camera rockets. We also welcomed a guest and his father as he successfully launched his first four flights with us.

In total, we flew 61 model rockets and burned a total of 91 model rocket engines with a theoretical total impulse of 1,760 Neutons. The success rate was very high with all of the flights and everybody had a good time.
