May 23, 2022 – Photo & Video Launch

May 27, 2022June 4, 2022 admin

The Cambridge Rocket Club hosted it’s third launch of the season on Monday May 23, 2022. The launch was postponed two days due to poor weather including a horrific thunder storm on May 21st. Launch day was greeted with moderate temperatures, diminishing winds and cloudy skies. We have once again returned to our primary launch site on the south side of 510 Mohawk Road.  We had a very large turnout of for our “Photo Day” launch including 15 CRC members and 5 guests that launched model rockets. We also had a large contingent of spectators joining in the fun.

By the end of the day, we managed to launch 78 model rockets including 9 models that carried on-board video cameras. We launched some boost gliders, multi-stage rockets, cluster rockets, scale rockets using the full range of engines from ½A to G motors. A group on McMaster University engineers brought along a G powered rocket with an electronic payload. We were very happy to welcome back to the CRC founder, Gary White to the launch site and watch him launch 5 of the clubs more historical rockets. In total, we managed to burn 89 model rocket engines with a theoretical total impulse of 1,830 Neutons.

It was a lot of fun to see so many rockets launched and so many spectators present. We continue to grow our membership base and number of rockets launched at each event. Our record of 128 rockets launched on June 2, 2018 is within reach if we continue to grow and also welcome back a number of CRC members cautiously reluctant to participate the last few years due to COVID-19 related reasons.

Our next launch is scheduled for Saturday June 11th and the theme of the launch is multi-stage rockets. Also, we will be giving away over a dozed model rockets donated to the club from members and guests alike. The give-away will focus on the younger members and guests that come out to the launch. Lre’s hope the weather co-operates and we can fly again in less than three weeks.
