On Sunday May 31st the Cambridge Rocket Club finally got it’s 2020 launch season underway. We were required to comply with COVID-19 Provincial Emergency Orders and confine our on field activities to a limit of no greater than five (5) members at any given time as well as practicing Physical Distancing at all times. This was accomplished by hosting three (3) 2 hour launch windows starting at 9:00 in the morning followed by launch windows at 11:00 and 1:00 in the afternoon. The launch was open to CRC members only and guests were not permitted (at this time). Participation was set up on a first come, first service basis and we had great co-operation from the membership.
The weather was less than ideal with 12 degree weather and 15 KPH winds gusting up to as high as 25 KPH at times. The skies were cloudy with clear patches and the winds did diminish as the day wore on. We has a total of 12 members show up and flew a total of fifty six (56) model rockets. We flew everything from 1/2A to G model rocket engines. The rockets flown included some two stage, two cluster, scale, altimeters and even a movie camera rocket (Cineroc clone). We ended up burning sixty two (62) model rocket engines with a total impulse of 1,510 Newtons.
